How To Refresh Your Half Bath On A Budget

I have been busy!

Last week I shared my half bath makeover plans and mood boards…with you all and guess what?! I have completed Part 1: How To Refresh Your Half Bath on a Budget! A huge thanks to my mom for helping me get this done in just a few hours and for under $200!

I am calling this a refresh because I am doing a simple makeover of this bathroom on a limited budget, which is part 1 of a larger project in the future!

Half Bathroom Ideas

Decorating half bathrooms can be a lot of fun since they are generally smaller spaces and offer lots of possibilities to get creative. With half bath decor, you can go big on patterns and embrace the idea of putting something unique and eye-catching in a small area.

This half bath refresh is all in the details!

To inject personality into the design, look to wall coverings or wallpaper that is ideally suited for half bathroom ideas. Think of adding classic details with bold lines, or accents that have visual interest such as black-and-white stamped tiles. Also consider highlighting features like glass vessels, metallic hardware, unique tile shapes, and intricate flooring – these ideas are sure to make your half bath stand out in the crowd!

Half Bath Decor

This week I was able to transform our half bath in just one afternoon with some gorgeous items from HomeDepot.com. Half bath decor doesn’t have to be costly. Let me show you how I was able to update our half bath with just decor and some small cosmetic changes.

Our half bath refresh on a budget was completed in in just one afternoon!

Our Half Bath Before

Let me remind you what our bathroom looked like BEFORE. This is our downstairs half bath that most of our guests use and it has always been pushed to the end of our list. Builder grade boring is what I like to call it.

Shopping For Updates and Half Bath Decor

The first thing I did when preparing for this refresh was do some on-line shopping on HomeDepot.com. I have been so impressed with their home decor selection lately and knew I would be able to find just what I was looking for.

The Home Depot has a great, online-only decor selection, including furniture, home & wall decor, kitchenware, small kitchen appliances, bed & bath textiles and even tabletop decor (like dinnerware, glassware and serveware)!

Easy Half Bath Updates

While shopping on-line at Homedepot.com I found this gorgeous black accent mirror! It caught my eye right away. The minute I took down our old white mirror and replaced it with this black beauty I knew this refresh was going to make me smile!

This refresh all started with this gorgeous black accent mirror from Home Depot.

After we hung the mirror we replaced both towel racks with new matte black ones to match the mirror. Black is such a classic color and I love how it pops on our white walls.

black, white and floral details make this half bath refresh stand out!

Below is the new matte black towel ring. We installed this in just a few moments in the same spot as the former one.

Next, is the 18 inch matte black towel bar. This is now on a new wall. We moved it to the same wall as the door instead of the wall to the left of the mirror. This simple moved freed up more space for some pretty art!

You can see the art (moved from my family room) and new towel bar in the reflection of the mirror.

Paint Is My Best Friend

Once the mirror was up I knew that our tiny little silver light fixture and brown wall basket were not going to cut it. So for this half bath refresh I grabbed a can of Rustoleum black spray paint in satin from Home Depot and sprayed our existing fixture.

What a difference it made!

The light no longer sticks out like a sore thumb with the new mirror.

*It was hard to get a good picture of the newly painted light fixture. So I apologize for the quality of the picture.

Updated light fixture with black spray paint.

I also sprayed the brown metal hanging tiered basket to match.

Black spray paint for the win!

After painting it I of course had to style it a bit. 🙂

  1. Oh my goodness, Kelly. I love it! Such an amazing transformation with just a few pieces. We are doing mixed metals in our master bath reno and I have been looking for matte black accessories. I may just have to snag these towel bars for our home!

  3. It’s amazing how little things can have such a big impact! PS I loved your idea of putting the items you want to spray paint in a box. I always lay it out flat and freak about the window lol Thanks for all the great ideas!!!

    1. Right?! I was shocked at how much adding black made the space come alive! The ole box trick is one of my faves..especially when I am lazy or have windy weather! Thanks for visiting today, so thankful for your support!

  4. It looks amazing, Kelly!! I have been trying to finish ours for 6 months and I cannot decide on a vanity. It’s definitely at the top of my list to get done now.

    1. Aww thanks Brittany! Bathrooms can be hard that’s why I am taking it little by little:) Good luck with your vanity hunt…so many choices! I bet you will pick a beautiful one!

  5. I love what you’ve done with that bathroom. It has given me ideas for my own as I recently painted the master bath walls gray, however the previous owners had painted at the light fixture bronze. So it stands out like a sore thumb. So I am going to get the rust oleum and paint it black and I think that’s going to just make a big difference in my bathroom. Thank you for your wonderful ideas.

  6. It looks lovely, my friend! I’m adding some black to my makeover too… now, if I could just get the walls finished! Love the mirror and the paint refreshes! Pinned!
