January is usually bitter cold here in Northern Colorado but we have had some unseasonably warm weather. December was warmer than usual and we only had a handful of days with snow.

The morning sunrises have made me truly appreciate the beauty of God’s creative artwork.

And, the geese are back on the pond. One morning we discovered goose feathers all over the yard. Upon closer inspection we saw bones and some large wings, yikes. Unfortunately a raccoon had feasted on a goose in our backyard…and that bugger apparently doesn’t care for wings.

We enjoyed a wonderful holiday season. Our daughters and granddaughters came over for our annual Christmas cookie day. We had so much fun and we each had plates of treats for our neighbors.

On Christmas Eve Papa has always read The Night Before Christmas to the girls.  I love these traditions.

But now the festivities are over. I don’t know about you but I miss the twinkling lights and cozy feel of Christmas.

JANUARY IDEAS FOR A COZY HOME

I like to keep the cozy feel going so I light candles and keep warm throws on the sofa and chairs.

Thymes Frasier Fir is my favorite winter candle. I also use dripless tapers.

I have an assortment of throws that I snuggle under during the evening.

This year I decided to add branches with twinkle lights to some greenery in a pottery vase. I had our tree on a timer so when we took that down, I simply plugged in the twinkling branches to the timer.  It brings cheer to cold wintry months. My friend across the pond told me she was enjoying our twinkle lights. I actually got the idea from someone else across the pond who had theirs lit throughout the winter.

On our sideboard I added pine cones under a cloche and brought out some mini flocked trees.  I also added a pinecone wreath and garland, as well as some pinecone candles.

During January when I’m not outside as much, I like to do jigsaw puzzles. Do you like jigsaw puzzles?

I recently finished this one and I’m getting ready to start another one. I will share some links.

Winter Sowing

I’m also planning on Winter Sowing some seeds for planting this spring. I love looking at different seeds and thinking about spots in the garden to plant them. I’m planning on some herbs, perennial flowers, and some annual flowers. So far I have the following seeds to sow in milk jugs:

  • Feverfew
  • Purple Coneflower
  • Marigold French Lemon Drop
  • Delphinium
  • Sweet Peas
  • Hollyhocks
  • Cosmos
  • Basil

Do you have any plants or flowers you would recommend???

Please share with me how you keep cozy during winter, I would love some more ideas!

Love,

Tracy

    1. Looks welcoming and warm🔥. I have sparkle lights that look like a branch around my picture of aspens, on a timer. The house does look bare after the holidays.

  4. I got some nice ideas from your post, Tracy. I think I will order those twinkle branches for my dining room table. I miss my little Christmas tree lights. I won’t be doing much decorating for awhile, we had a flood from a broken water main and after 28 days with the industrial fans and dehumidifyers running, the floors are still wet underneath. Thankfully though, the walls and living room are all dry now. So patience is something I am praying for this season. Could have been so much worse. Thank you for your post, I always look forward to it.

    1. Oh Pamela that flood sounds awful. Perhaps some twinkling branches on your table might bring you some cheer. Praying for God’s patience to fill you!
