Tuesdays With Tracy: A Garden Tea Party

| |

Friends!

I’m so happy you’re here.  A big welcome to all the new subscribers to The Lazy Girls Garden Club.  I’m Kelly’s mom, I love visiting with all of you, and I’m so glad you dropped by.

A garden tea party

Are you savoring August and hanging on to the end of summer?  I know I am. I woke early a few days ago and watched a crane and some ducks on our pond.

A GARDEN TEA PARTY

Last month my sister, Pam, was here for a fun visit. We usually try to have a tea party when she visits. Kelly and her sister Lindsey and my four grand girlies all enjoy being with Aunt Pam.

I decided it would be fun to set a table under the shade of a tree in the garden.

“Everything good, everything magical,

happens between the months of June and August.”    – Jenny Han

Pam and I set the table with a mix of tablecloths as a colorful foundation.  I did opt to use pink disposable plastic plates, but everything else was a mix of my blue and white china.

I’ve always had a rule that our tea parties are an occasion to dress up – no sweats or athletic wear. Sometimes the little girlies have grumbled but now I think they enjoy the ritual of our shared special time together.

Kelly’s daughter Grace, and her cousin Quinn both chose to wear some lovely sun dresses.

Kelly’s younger daughter Crosby and her cousin Blaklee both opted for cute shirts and dressy shorts.  Upon their arrival I always complement the girls and thank them for dressing up.

And yes, Pam was blinking… but how cute is her floral dress!  Crosby certainly has Kelly’s smile and curly hair.

I have an old iron garden cart that I painted blue a few years ago.  We used that as a place for making peach & strawberry Italian sodas.  The girls also wanted our favorite Harney & Sons Paris Tea.

Italian Sodas

  • Ice
  • Sparkling Water
  • Flavored Syrup to taste
  • A little cream or milk
  • Whipped cream

Garden Tea Party Menu

  • Cucumber Sandwiches
  • Watermelon
  • Mini Cupcakes
  • White Chocolate Chip & Cranberry Scones
  • Italian Sodas
  • Paris Tea

Scones with clotted cream and jam are a must.

I am looking for a good simple  recipe for clotted cream. I usually purchase it at Whole Foods.

I have used this scone recipe multiple times. My friend Maggi shared it with me years ago.

“The very act of preparing and serving tea encourages conversation.  The little spaces in time created by teatime rituals call out to be filled with conversation.  Even the tea itself-warm and comforting-inspires a feeling of relaxation and trust that fosters shared confidences.”

Emilie Barnes

At our tea parties there are always delightful stories and lots of laughter.  This ritual is a legacy of love that I hope our daughters and granddaughters will treasure long after I am at home in heaven.

I’ve included some links to some similar items shown.

I’ll see you in September…

(Made me think of this summer song!)

Love,

Tracy

  3. I love tea parties. We have a few great tea houses local to us here in B.C. I started a tradition recently (hope we can continue) with my 2 grandaughters, aged 4 and 1.5. The particular tea house we went to had a theme of Peter Rabbit, and I made little gift bags for the girls. My daughter had them dressed up so cute. We want to go again, just the girls.
