Free Flower Friday: A New Little Tradition in My Neighborhood
Sometimes the best ideas happen by accident. Last week I was standing in my kitchen staring at a counter full of zinnia bouquets I had cut, and I realized—I had way more flowers than I could ever enjoy inside my own home. And the thought of letting them go to waste made me a little sad.

So, I grabbed a handful of jars (you know, the ones I collect from thrift stores or save from meals) and filled them with flowers. On a whim, I set them out front with a simple little sign that said “Free Flowers.”

And let me tell you… watching neighbors, walkers, and even delivery drivers stop and pick them up throughout the day brought me so much joy. There’s something so sweet about seeing someone’s face light up just because they get to take home a handful of flowers.
From a Tuesday Experiment to “Free Flower Friday”
It was so fun that I decided to do it again that Friday—and that’s when Free Flower Friday was born! Now, every Friday, my plan is to set out a new batch of zinnia bouquets for anyone passing by to enjoy. I’m hoping to keep this little tradition going until my zinnias are done for the season.

And here’s the best part—when it comes to zinnias, the more you cut them, the more they bloom. It’s like the flowers themselves are in on the fun, making sure there’s always enough to share.

Ideas From My Instagram Friends
I shared my Free Flower Friday over on Instagram and was blown away by how many of you do this too! You had such clever ideas to make it even easier:
- Using brown craft paper cups when I run out of jars. Genius!
- Setting out a jar exchange box so people can drop off empty jars for me to reuse.
- Adding little notes or tags with a smiley face or scripture verse for an extra touch.

Isn’t it fun how generosity multiplies?
Why I’m Hooked
For me, Free Flower Friday is more than just sharing zinnias—it’s about connecting with neighbors and sprinkling a little unexpected joy into someone’s day. It feels simple, easy, and in true lazy girl style, it doesn’t require much more than flowers, jars, and a piece of paper with the word “FREE” on it.
And honestly? I can’t think of a better way to spend a Friday.
