If you’ve been looking for a simple, thoughtful gift that feels special (but is actually incredibly easy), you are going to love this one.

This season, I found the most perfect little pre-potted paperwhites at Walmart for just $5, and instead of gifting them in the plain plastic pot, I decided to give them a little glow-up. A beautiful scalloped-edge vase, a touch of moss, a couple of sticks for support, a soft ribbon tied around the stems… and just like that, it looked like an expensive, custom floral gift from a boutique.

The best part? I created free printable gift tags to go with them — some simple and sweet, and others that include easy care instructions — so you can gift them with love and confidence.

These little paperwhite gifts make the perfect present for a hostess, neighbor, teacher, friend, co-worker, or anyone who could use a little winter and holiday joy. They’ll keep growing, blooming, and brightening someone’s home long after the gift exchange is over… and when they’re done, the vase can be reused again and again.

Simple. Thoughtful. Beautiful. The Lazy Girl way.

Why Paperwhites Make the Perfect Gift

Paperwhites are one of my all-time favorite winter flowers, especially for gifting because:

  • They bloom beautifully indoors
  • They don’t need a lot of light or fuss
  • They are affodable
  • They grow quickly and feel like a little miracle during winter
  • They smell sweet and fresh (to some people)
  • They’re easy for beginners (even non-gardeners!)
  • And they’re 100% reusable when planted in a vase

It’s a gift that keeps on giving.

If you’re new to paperwhites (or want to learn even more about forcing and styling them), you can find all of my favorite tips in this post: How to Grow and Use Paperwhites in Your Winter Decor.

Supplies You Will Need

You can find nearly all of this at Walmart (or similar stores). FYI I linked as much as I could below in the green and underlined words.

How to Make a DIY Paperwhite Hostess Gift

  1. Remove the paperwhites from their plastic pot (be gentle with the roots).
  2. Place them into your scalloped vase. Dirt and all!
  3. Add moss around the top to cover soil and give it a finished, natural look.
  4. Insert a few small sticks for gentle support as they grow taller.
  5. Tie a ribbon around the sticks and stems for a soft, pretty touch.
  6. Attach one of the free printable gift tags. I used floral wire under my ribbon to hold the gift tag and the sticks!
  7. Give it water just to the bottom of the bulbs — and admire your beautiful handmade gift!

That’s it. No stress. No overthinking. Just simple beauty.

Paperwhite Care Instructions (for the Tag + Recipient)

  • Place in bright, indirect light
  • Keep the soil slightly moist (not soaking & not filling vase)
  • Turn the vase occasionally to help them grow straight
  • Once stems reach 3-5 inches tall add a splash of vodka to stunt growth and prevent flopping
  • Blooms will appear in about 3–5 weeks
  • Once finished, the vase can be reused or replanted

These basic care tips are also included on some of the printable tags for easy gifting!

I created two different styles of tags for you! You can mix and match them, print in color or keep them black and white. You can just print them at home, cut them out, punch a hole, and tie them onto your ribbon or sticks.

A Little Note From Me

I love gifts that grow. Gifts that last. Gifts that bring light in the middle of winter. To me, a paperwhite is more than just a flower — it’s a reminder that beauty is always blooming, even when everything outside looks quiet and bare.

And I hope these little handcrafted gifts bring that same joy into the homes of those you give them to If you make one, I would LOVE to see it! Email me or share it in the comments below on this post or tag me on Instagram @lazygirlsgardenclub or share it in our community.
