Christmas Decor Ideas for Your Living Room and Kitchen

| | |

Welcome, friends! I’m so glad you’re here for Day 3 of our week-long Christmas Home Tour series with 35 of my talented blogger friends. There is nothing I love more than opening our home during this season (since the garden is now done)— the twinkle lights, the cozy corners, the stories behind the pieces… all of it.

And if you’ve been around here awhile, you know I decorate early for Christmas. Not because I’m rushing the season, but because it brings me so much joy. Christmas is my absolute favorite holiday — not only because it celebrates the birth of Jesus, but because my birthday is on December 22nd, too. Double the celebrating, double the sparkle!

More than anything, my hope is always that something here inspires you… a wreath, a garland, a simple centerpiece, or even just the reminder that decorating doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be meaningful, reused, reimagined, and full of heart.

If you want to peek back, be sure to visit last year’s Christmas Home Tour — you’ll spot many familiar pieces because I love reusing my decor year after year. I simply move things around, pair them in new ways, and give them fresh life. That’s half the fun!

And of course, Christmas decorating is something my mom and I have always loved doing together. It’s our thing — we grab some yummy coffee, haul in the bins, and laugh our way through every room. This year was extra special because we dreamed up a few BIG ideas… and let’s just say, we went for it.

So grab a cozy drink because today I’m taking you through our entryway, our blue kitchen, and our living room, and I took so many pictures. Let’s dive in!

Christmas Entryway Decor Ideas: Nativity, Wreaths & a Hot Cocoa Station

When you step inside our home, you’re welcomed by our stairwell and small entry table. On the other side of the stairs in our entry, you’ll notice two blue doors that hide our coat closet. Hanging on these closet doors are two huge red berry wreaths — a flea market find from my parents. They’re bold, bright, and instantly festive. They set the tone for the classic red-and-green palette you’ll see throughout the tour.

Just beyond this is one of my very favorite pieces: my Fontanini Nativity, the one I’ve had since I was a little girl. I treasure it so much and love giving it a special place each year. This season it sits front and center on my beloved green dresser, reminding me of the true reason we celebrate.

A stack of our collected Christmas books is down to the right of my green dresser. On top is a thrifted jar of vintage ornaments and a framed Santa picture I picked up at a vintage market last weekend!

Tucked just off the left of our entry in a little cove is our hot chocolate station, sitting on my Facebook Marketplace pine dresser find. I filled it with peppermint sticks, mugs, and all the cozy fixings — ready for chilly Colorado nights. Here you will also spot my faux paperwhites. Next to it, a flocked 6-foot tree twinkles away, giving off the softest winter glow.

Cozy Christmas Kitchen Decorations in Traditional Red and Green

Our blue kitchen always looks extra cheerful at Christmas, almost like it was made for the season. This year I kept things simple but festive: garland with red berries, red bows, a few strands of fairy lights tucked around the garland above our stove, and a vintage Santa surrounded by growing paperwhites and some festive glasses with Christmas trees.

Living Room Christmas Decor Ideas with Stars, Berries & Natural Elements

Okay… the living room is where things get good.

This year I wanted to go big. Like really big.

My paperwhites are growing!

So I marched out into our yard and dragged in the most beautiful large stick — truly a branch — that had fallen after a storm. And after a little convincing (just kidding… Mom was totally on board!), we hung it above and in front of the mantel from a ceiling beam as the focal point of the room.

How to Decorate Your Mantel for Christmas with Natural Foraged Branches

This might be one of my favorite decorating moments ever.

We wrapped the branch in:

Underneath it, the mantel is layered with:

It feels organic, whimsical, and a little like stepping into a woodland Christmas story.

Inside the fireplace you will see wicker vintage demi johns, battery operated candles and a mercury glass star from Homegoods! And just in front of that is a bench with blue and green striped pillows for a touch of cozy whimsy!

Classic Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas in Red and Green

Our flocked Christmas tree sits in the corner, glowing softly. This year I leaned into traditional reds and greens, using:

  • Red berries
  • Vintage Shiny Brite ornaments
  • Our collection of felt ornaments
  • Another matching Moravian star garland
  • Handmade yellow paper stars from a few years back
  • And THESE LIGHTS for an extra glowing tree (I love a lot of lights!)

There’s just something so nostalgic about this tree — simple, cheerful, full of memories. I wrapped a plaid blanket around the base and stacked a few more on a basket behind the tree too. Wrapping paper is ready to go just off to the side! Did you spy my mini greenhouse ornaments with my preserved zinnias?
