Cane Love

Lately I have noticed a lot of cane furniture and accessories showing up in the home decor world and I have to tell you, I LOVE it! I even found a beautiful little cane side table at a flea market recently and scooped it up!  You can see it featured in my post about 3 ways to style a faux flower arrangement.

More and more I feel myself being drawn to adding more coastal touches to my decor, and guess what?

Cane can be perfect for that.

For instance, how cute is this cane drinkware set from Pottery Barn? You can find an affordable option HERE!

Or how about this cane wrapped vase from GreenHouse Home ? It served as my inspiration! I found another beauty on Amazon HERE!

Or this cane bed from Serena and Lily!

Cane Can Be Pricey: No Pieces Left Behind

However, the price tag of cane furniture and decor is not always in my budget. So I decided that I would DIY some cane pieces on my own and ended up buying some cane webbing on-line. (link to the store is listed below!)

For today’s project I am using the “scraps” from a much larger piece/project that I will be sharing with you all here real soon. I can’t wait for you to see it! UPDATE: See the DIY Cane Armoire Makeover here!

It’s absolutely gorgeous…and big…and has touches of white and gold. But that’s enough hints for now. 🙂

I just couldn’t let any of this gorgeous cane go to waist!

So I literally walked around my house looking for ideas on how else I could use it and …this IKEA vase spoke to me! I was confident I could recreate the cane wrapped vase above for half of the price!

Supplies Needed

The best part about this project is that there is minimal supplies needed. I had everything on hand at home already. I was lucky to have already purchased the cane.

This is all you need to creat s chic coastal cane vase at home at an affordable price.

The first thing I did was gather up my scrap cane pieces and trim all of the excess fringe off of it. Then I did a dry run and wrapped the cane around the vase and measured how much I would need to cut off. Then I carefully cut the cane.

Don't forget to trim off the excess cane from your webiing before you start your project!
Measure your cane!

From here I made sure my hot glue gun was hot and ready. Then I added a bead of hot glue to the actual vase itself.

Adding a strip of hot glue to the vase itself will help the cane adhere best.

Pro Tip: hot glue peels off of glass very easily so it’s OK if you make a mistake. Or if you don’t like the outcome. Or if you want this project to be temporary!

Next, I held down the end of my piece of cane and pressed it onto the hot glue. It does seep through a bit so try not to burn yourself!

Creati g a cane wrapped vase is easy and fast!

Once the first piece was secured to the vase I then ran a bead of hot glue on top of the cane piece already stuck to the vase.

Firmly I pulled and stretched the remaining cane around the vase and pressed the end to the bead of hot glue. Make sure to hold it down for a few extra seconds to make sure it will stick. And, waalaa! The cane is attached!

Hot glue is perfect for attaching cane webbing to any old vase!

See, super easy. Right?!

After seeing that the one strip of cane was securely on I decided that I wanted to add one more strip for more of a wow factor!

One strip of cane added...and this vase definitely needs one more!

The second strip I feel really completed the look I was going for. You can follow the same steps above to attach the second piece.

Make sure that your cane patterns match up and don’t forget to measure!

Double the cane double the fun project!

And that’ it! Yep, quick and easy and stylish! And the best part is that if I want to go back to the plain vase…it can easily be removed!
