Saying Goodbye to Miss. Fanny (Well… Sort Of)
When we moved into this house four years ago, I was giddy about the outdoor spaces. Both Mike and I instantly fell in love with the entire outdoor space here and knew it was perfect for our family.

Outdoor Spaces and Outdoor Sofas
We have two pergolas right off our back sliding doors that create two totally separate little zones. One side holds our outdoor dining table, and the other is the firepit area. Both are filled with pea gravel, which I still love for that casual, slightly European garden vibe.

The firepit side is where life happens. Our kids hang out here with their friends.
Late-night chats and smores. Morning coffee and quiet time. Date nights for just Mike and I.
Friends lingering longer than planned. Basically what outdoor spaces are made for!

Miss Fanny
Originally, we set it up with four white Adirondack chairs tucked into the corners and my favorite old church pew I found at a vintage market placed lengthwise in front of our long rectangular firepit. If you been a blog reader for awhile now you know I love my church pews, hence the name of my blog! Read the story of how I found Miss Fanny here!

That pew has a name, of course, Miss. Fanny. She has heard many prayers and many stories over the years I’m sure! Mine included.

At our old house, Miss. Fanny lived under our covered front porch, safe and protected from Colorado weather, and living her best vintage life. But here? She’s been fully exposed to the elements. And lately… sitting on her has become a bit of a choose-your-own-adventure situation.

Splinters.
Wobbling.
And sadly, questionable structural integrity. You know, character!
A New Outdoor Sofa?
I’ve always loved the look of black wrought iron, but finding an outdoor sofa that wasn’t outrageously expensive and the right size felt impossible. Everything we liked was either wildly overpriced or weirdly tiny.
Then one day, scrolling (as one does), I saw Walmart’s new spring outdoor furniture lineup and there it was. A black metal outdoor sofa with potential. The price was phenomenal being under $300. The size was perfect and the vibe, totally us. How cute is this little collage of Walmart outdoor decor including the outdoor sofa we picked? They sure have stepped up their game!
I showed Mike immediately. We measured (twice). It looked like it would fit the space exactly how we hoped.
So we ordered it.
A Good Man
It came within a week and Mike put it together in one afternoon, super easy! And I stuffed the cushions. The fabric is a light tan, made for outdoors, and it is just like I imagined!

Now all that’s left is deciding on outdoor accent pillows. We definitely need tome color on her.
(Which, let’s be honest, is both my favorite and most paralyzing decision.)

Moving Miss. Fanny
And Miss. Fanny? She’s been gently relocated to the side yard.
I’m not quite ready to say goodbye yet. I keep telling myself she might have another chapter. A garden moment. A potting bench situation. Something.

For now, I’ll just wave to her as I walk by and pretend this wasn’t emotional.
Tell me, have you ever had a piece you loved the look of but finally had to admit it was time to move on? Or should I try to give Miss. Fanny one more glow-up? Let me know in the comments below what you think.
I’d love to have you hang out with me some more! Feel free to follow along with me on any of the platforms linked below.
