How to Add Vintage Decor to Your Fall Porch
When it comes to decorating my porch I have to say that Fall and Christmas are my absolute favorite seasons to decorate for. My porch from last Fall was a fun one, but this year I really felt led to add more vintage decor and personal touches to our porch and I LOVE how it turned out.
Start with an Inspiration Piece
My inspiration piece for our porch this Fall came in the form of this old 1950’s imitation Hudson Bay blanket that was my grandmother’s. I saw it at my mom’s house this past summer and asked if I could borrow it for my porch. I have seen many like it at flea markets and I have always loved the colors and stripes and just felt like it would be a fun to piece to build off of.
Mums the Word
When I think about Fall I always think about mums. This year I found yellow and orange/red mums at Costco and Lowes to play off the stripes of the blanket. They are gorgeous and I am crossing my fingers I can keep them alive!
Vintage Containers for Porch Decor
Those mums I mentioned above needed some vintage container love and I brought some fun ones out for our Fall porch this year. A good tip to remember is when you are out shopping always keep your eyes peeled for unique vintage containers that you can re-purpose. I used an old tall apple basket, a galvanized pail and a vintage tree crate to name a few. These vintage items bring instant character and add a unique element to the porch. The best part is that I had all of these items around my home already.
Shop the Post
These beautiful pumpkins also needed a vintage platform and this old black chippy metal chair did the trick! Don’t be afraid to think outside of the box when it comes to using vintage decor.
The Tattered Pew
Of course I would be remiss if I didn’t mention my favorite Tattered Pew. She is the foundation of my porch no matter the season. You can read all about her and her vintage glory here! Her name is Ms. Fanny and I love the charm she adds to our front porch.
If I had one piece of advice to offer when you are decorating (anywhere) it would be to find one statement piece you absolutely love and decorate around it. For me that is my sweet pew!
Don’t Forget the Entry
Just around the corner from my pew is our front door. I had fun adding vintage touches here as well!
Don’t miss the post I have that walks you through how I easily added these no sew sweater flower pot covers to my mum flowers. Aren’t they just the cutest?
